James Chandler McMahan, Sr.Died on December 27, 2008 at the age of 86 after an extended illness. He was born on March 28, 1922 in Sevierville, Tennessee and was a lifelong resident of Sevierville. He attended the University of Tennessee and served three and one-half years in the Army Air Corps in World War II. After returning from the war, he married Katie Allen and joined his father, M.B. McMahan, Sr. and his brother, M.B. McMahan, Jr. in McMahan Forest Industries that operated a lumber mill in Waldens Creek until 1970. McMahan Forest Industries supplied lumber for projects throughout East Tennessee. After the sale of the mill in 1970, he worked with his father to develop residential property in Sevierville, and thereafter operated the machine shop originally built by McMahan Forest Industries to build its lumber mill. He continued to work in the shop until February of 2007, where he personally provided a broad range of fabrication, machining and repair services and truly enjoyed helping anyone in need of his services. He was a business owner and skilled sawyer, builder, machinist and welder. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sevierville, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher and achieved forty-nine years of perfect Sunday School attendance. He lived his faith in every aspect of his life. He was devoted to his wife, Katie, his children, his grandchildren and his parents. He was predeceased by his parents, M.B. McMahan, Sr. and Zella B. McMahan, his brother and sister-in-law, M.B. McMahan, Jr. and Dorothy T. McMahan and nephew, M.B. (Beetle) McMahan III. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Katie McMahan, daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Joe Gibbs of Nashville, Tennessee, son and daughter-in-law Chandler McMahan, Jr. and Becky of Sevierville, Tennessee, daughter and son-in-law, Renee' and Keith Dutton of Woodstock, Georgia, seven grandchildren, Wesley and Patrick Gibbs; Chandra McMahan Thompson and husband Eric, Amber and Katelyn McMahan, and Miles and Maddie Dutton, and one great-grandson Chandler Monroe Thompson.

Funeral service 2 PM Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Sevierville with Rev. Jerry Hyder officiating. Interment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. Pallbearers are Horace Yarberry, Ben Cusick, Frank Atchley, Frank Lowe and Jimmy Turner. Honorary pallbearers are the Joe Woods Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of Sevierville.
