  [S24] The Newport Plain Talk, (http://www.newportplaintalk.com), 18 Aug 2009. Y. J. Cope, 78, of Greeneville, died Sunday, August 16, 2009, at Life Care Center. A native of Newport, he was the son of the late J. O. and Maudella (McMahan) Cope. He was retired from the Birmingham, Alabama Police Department and later retired from BASF. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he attended First Baptist Church of Greeneville as long as his health permitted. He resided at Bibles Acres Lane in Greeneville. Mr. Cope is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dianne Cope, and four daughters and two sons-in-law: Kathryn and Rick Chandler and Linda High, all of Greeneville; Nancy Greene, Oak Ridge; and Brenda and David Hinkle, Odenville, Alabama. He is also survived by five grandsons: Jeremiah and Michael McBride, Joshua McCay, Bradley Hinkle, and Trey Perry; four granddaughters: Melissa McCay Haynes, Allison Rumore Frye, Elizabeth Perry, and Amy Hinkle; one step-grandson: Daniel Chandler; nine great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law: Beverly and Rankin Little, Manchester, TN; and one brother and sister-in-law: Bill and Alza Cope, Knoxville; one sister-in-law: Rita Cope, Newport; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cope was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Rumore, and two brothers: Jack and Don Cope. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2009, in Kiser Rose Hill Chapel with Pastor J. D. Swanger officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Newport. Pallbearers will be Jeremiah McBride, Joshua McCay, Michael McBride, Bradley Hinkle, Rick Chandler, David Hinkle, and Jim Deason. Honorary pallbearers will be Otis Haney, Steve Swecker, Floyd Collins, George Bradley, Tommy Miles, and Trey Perry. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 20, from 7-9 p.m. and from 9-11 a.m. on Friday, August 21 at Kiser Rose Hill Funeral Home.
