Robin Pack Conway passed away suddenly to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday morning, September 25, 2016 due to a heart condition diagnosed in the spring of 2015. Robin was born on July 15, 1960. She attended Newport Grammar School and grew up in the Bryant Town Community. Robin was a graduate of Cocke County High School class of 1978. Robin was a majorette in the marching band and played the flute. She attended and graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1982, earning a degree in Banking. After college, Robin worked at Newport Federal Bank for several years and later as a credit union examiner for the State of Tennessee. Robin met her husband-to-be, Thomas W. Conway at the Newport Community Center, had their first date on a Snowy Valentine’s Day in 1986, and after a two year courtship they were married on May 21, 1988 at the First United Methodist Church of Newport. Robin and Tom enjoyed vacationing and spending time in Charleston, South Carolina where they enjoyed walking with their dog on the beach. Along with Tom, she loved her pets, Gracie, her English Setter who was her constant companion, and their four cats, Charlie, Jasmine, Forest and Blossom. She enjoyed flower gardening at home and creating peaceful surroundings for her family. Robin was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation of Newport. She also had fond ties to the congregation of Memorial Baptist Church where her parents where devoted members. Robin was active in our community. She spent many years, hands –on laboring and volunteering with Cocke County Habitat for Humanity where she served as Executive Director overseeing the building of six houses. She believed each home was not only a dwelling, but a symbol to us of God’s love. Robin was also devoted to the Newport Animal Shelter where she enjoyed volunteering. Robin worked with Keep Cocke County Beautiful and explained the need and benefits of recycling by speaking to children at our local schools. She promoted and assisted with planting of daffodils along Cosby Highway. Robin was involved in the local garden club and served as President of The Newport Garden Club. One her most rewarding projects while working with the garden club was landscaping the front of the Stokely Memorial Library. She supported the Cocke County Education Foundation and was interested in local children furthering their education for their benefit and for the betterment of Cocke County. Robin was preceded in death by her precious parents, Martha L. Evans Pack and Robert E. Pack, Sr. She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas W. Conway, M.D., her brother, Robert E. Pack, Jr. and his wife, Susan Ball Pack, nephew and niece, Evan R. Pack and Kaitlyn N. Pack. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Chris Conway and his wife, Bryn Conway and nephew and niece, Shawn Conway and Sarah Conway. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 28th from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm at First Methodist Church Newport where they were married. A service of thanksgiving and celebration of Robin’s life will be held immediately following receiving of friends with her pastor, Rev. David Garrett officiating. Entombment will be at Union Cemetery Mausoleum on Thursday, September 29th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Robin Conway to The Episcopal Church of the Annunciation of Newport, Cocke County Education Foundation, Newport Animal Shelter or the Newport Garden Club or Heartsease Garden Club.
