Mr. Smelcer was a veteran of World War II. He was born August 28, 1918. He was a retired farmer and a member of Laurel Branch Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Cindia Smelcer; brothers, Lawson, Richard, Claude, Earl, Loy and J.D. Smelcer; sisters, Trula Brown, Lona Williamson, Lura Sizemore, Evelina Smelcer and Velva Sizemore. Survivors: wife of 58 years, Nina McMahan Smelcer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bessie and Rev. Orville Parton, Vernice and Manuel Branch; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Dorothy Smelcer, Bonnie Smelcer, Decina Smelcer, Lucille Watson, Bonnie and Lowell Whaley, Cldye and Louise McMahan, Howard and Pauline McMahan, Charles and Lillie Mae McMahan, J.L. and Jerri McMahan; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral service 7 p.m. Sunday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Rev. Orville Parton, Rev. Melvin Lonas officiating. Interment 10 a.m. Monday in Smoky Mountain Memory Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Clyde McMahan, Howard McMahan, Charles McMahan, Ray Shultz, Ronnie Key, James Harper, Jr. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
