Nashville (TN) – Janice McMahan McKinley is the 2015 recipient of the Executive Nurse of Distinction Award, presented by the Tennessee Hospital Association during their 77th annual meeting at Opryland Hotel. Janice, Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President of Quality, Safety and Nursing at Covenant Health, was honored for her experience in patient care and nursing leadership during her 40-year career in health care.
McKinley has the ability to see issues through the ‘nursing lens” while understanding the broader business challenges of the healthcare industry. She is a strong presence and born leader who has set the performance bar high.
Dedicated to nursing education and preparing nurses to meet the challenges of the future, McKinley was recently selected to spearhead the development of the advanced educational program for Covenant Health’s nursing leaders in collaboration with the University of Tennessee’s College of Business Administration and Nursing. The Covenant Health Nursing Leadership Series is the first program of its kind in East Tennessee.
McKinley’s professional credentials are a reflection of her commitment to professional advancement and the highest level of expertise. She is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives and a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). In addition, she has served as president and a board member of the Tennessee Organization of Nurse Executives, a member of the Tennessee Hospital Association Council on Government Affairs and chapter president of the East Tennessee Healthcare Executive Association. She also serves as chair of the University of Tennessee College of Nursing advisory board.
She has received the ACHE Distinguished Service Award and the organization’s Senior-Level Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award. She also has received the Dr. Sylvia E. Hart Distinguished Alumni Award and the Accomplished Alumni Award.
A graduate of Sevier County High School, she has received a bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a master’s degree in health services administration at the College of St. Francis, Joliet, IL.
