Amos P. McCarter, age 87 of Sevierville, went to be with his Lord Monday, May 5, 2003.
He accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and joined Richardson’s Cove Baptist Church, where his father was pastor and builder for that church in 1930. Mr. McCarter served in the U.S. Navy in the 1940’s. After marrying Beulah, the McCarter’s lived in San Francisco, California before returning to Knox and Sevier Counties. During these years he was a watchmaker and after moving back to Sevierville established his own business. He was well known for his electric car that he used for pick up and delivery for his business and to pick up his nieces at school.
He joined First Baptist Church soon after moving back to Sevierville and served as a deacon and teacher of a men’s Sunday school class as long as he was able to attend. Even though the McCarters had no children of their own, they were always interested in the young people of the church and their nephews and nieces who loved them dearly.
