Bessie Cline Patton passed away from this life to her heavenly home on September 4, 2007 at the family home with family and friends by her side. She was born on November 11, 1921, in Monroe County, Tennessee. She received Christ as her personal Savior at the age of ten. She became the wife of Rev. Alvin Patton in March of 1938. In 1940, Alvin became a minister and pastor. Together, Alvin and Bessie dedicated their life to the work of the Lord. Bessie dedicated her life to God, her family, her church, and her friends. She has often been referred to as “the most God-like person I know,” “Sweet Bessie,” “a wonderful lady with a brilliant smile.” She is a member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her children, Luella Patton, Olbin Patton, and Harold Patton; parents, Willie and Cara Dotson Cline; siblings, Ula Hodge, Nora Headrick, Maebell Hurst, Vira Rickman, Lucille Yates, Thomas Cline, Donnie Cline and Nellie Cline; husband’s parents, Alfred and Abbie Patton; and son-in-law, Winston Carroll. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Rev. Alvin Patton; children, Richard and wife, Patricia Anne Patton, Calvin Patton and friend, Henrietta Daugherty, V.J. and Bernice Patton Long, Ed and Linda Patton Griffing, grandchildren, Dwight Carroll, Jeffrey and Leah Patton, Ron and Stephanie Patton Mills, Jeff and Shelda Patton Truelove, and Whitney Patton; great-grandchildren, Amanda Carroll Carter and husband, Chris, Sarah Beth Mills, Rachel Mills, Eain Patton, Olivia Truelove, and Molly Patton; great-great-grandchildren, Winston Carter and Darren Carter; step-grandchildren, Robert and Cynthia Long, Donnie and Victoria Long Bible, William and Jody Long, Jon and Betty Long Humphrey, Trey Griffing; step-great-grandchildren, Dana Bible, Sam Duke, Shawn Martin, Allyson Dunbar, and husband, J.D.; step-great-great-grandchild, Rachel Dunbar. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Home on Thursday, September 6, 2007 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A celebration of Bessie’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, September 7, 2007 at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church with the burial following the service in Liberty Church Cemetery. In honor of Bessie’s request, her devoted husband, Rev. Alvin Patton, will deliver a sermon of celebration, salvation and praise. He will be assisted by Reverends Jeffrey Patton, Fred Tate, Davis McCammon, and Ben Ward.
