(April 28, 1918 - July 31, 2014)
Rev. Alvin Patton was born in Monroe County in 1918. On March 24, 1938, he married the love of his life, Bessie Cline. They became parents to seven children. Alvin accepted the call to preach the gospel in August of 1938. That began a journey of commitment by Alvin and Bessie to win souls for the Lord. On July 31, 2014 Alvin passed to his heavenly home at the age of 96. He was a member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church where he served as pastor for 20 years. He was a minister of God’s gospel for 76 years. He was the pastor of nine different churches in Blount, Monroe and Loudon counties. He preached revivals in 48 churches. Preacher Patton proclaimed God’s Salvation Plan to thousands of people. He saw hundreds of people accept Christ as Savior. He had the joy of baptizing hundreds of believers. No matter where he went, he witnessed to others and encouraged them to continue in their Christian life. Most of his prayers ended with this request: “Above all, Lord, please help me to be faithful to the end.” There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Preacher Patton surely remained faithful to the end.
