Jack F. Llewellyn, Sr., age 84, of Rockford, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015. Jack was born in Knoxville (Park City) on October 22, 1930. Orphaned before the age of one by pneumonia, he was raised by two loving aunts. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1948 and attended the University of Tennessee. He was a member of Rockford Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Through the efforts of HonorAir Knoxville, Jack was able to visit the Korean War Memorial in Washington, DC. He moved his family to Rockford in 1964 where he gardened and raised livestock on a small farm. He began his career at Construction Materials Laboratory in 1952. He became owner of the company in 1976 and retired in 1992. The company was founded in 1943 and continues to be operated by his family. Jack was a member of the American Concrete Institute for 51 years; Institute For the Certification of Engineering Technicians for 45 years; and American Society of Certified Engineering Technicians. Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman, with hunting and fishing trips taking him all across Tennessee and the United States from Alaska to Florida. He won trophies for archery and shooting skills. He has a game room with deer, turkey, duck, geese, and fish mounts. He and his dog Jolex won a blue ribbon at the AKC Master National Hunting Test for Retrievers in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He and Jolex spent many hours dove, duck, and goose hunting. He was an accomplished gardener, artist (painter), wine maker, and chef. He loved his guitar. He self-published a cook book as well as a history of the Llewellyn family. He gifted family members with his framed artwork. Jack leaves his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Areta Hutchison Llewellyn; daughter and son-in-law, Martha Jane and Rick Fitzgerald; son Jack Llewellyn, Jr.; grandson and wife, Scott and Michelle Fitzgerald; (great-granddaughters, Keeley and Bailey Fitzgerald); and granddaughter, Areta Fitzgerald (great-grandson Jeremiah Fitzgerald) to cherish his memory. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Avie Hutchison; niece, Andrea McEntire; nephew, Scott Hutchison and their families; special friends, Drew Lequire, Bill (Catfish) Hutchison; special friend, Jack Henson; and all his many friends and supporters at Rockford Baptist Church. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the skilled caregivers at UT Hospital, Blount Memorial Hospital, Trinity Medical Associates, University Cardiology, University Heart Surgeons, University Vascular Surgeons, University Nephrology, East Tennessee Dialysis Clinic, and Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation. Family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM, Reverends Bill Small and Johnny Quillen officiating. Family and friends will meet at Sherwood Memorial Gardens on Tuesday at 11:00 AM for the entombment. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway.
