(March 31, 1923 - August 20, 2014)
U.S. Veteran Mr. Donald “Don” Crumley, age 91 of Franklin, Georgia, formerly of Newport, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, August, 20, 2014 at the Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, Georgia. Mr. Crumley was born on March 31, 1923, the son of the late Dee Crumley and Sarah Hinchey Crumley. He was a member of the Wilsonville Baptist Church. Due to the death of his father he entered the work force at a very early age. During World War II he answered the call and served honorably in the United States Army. He achieved the rank of Sergeant in only three years. For his gallantry he received the Good Conduct Medal, American Service Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. After his military service he became a lineman for Newport Utilities where he worked until his retirement. Even at a very senior age he always continued to work. Never idle, he took great pride in his two acre garden. In what little spare time he had he enjoyed hunting and fishing. “Mr. Don” was a wonderful husband to his lovely wife, Cora Aline Belcher Crumley until her death, and always the loving father and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Brenda Crumley of Franklin, GA.; one sister, Frances Helenboat of Knoxville, TN.; grandchildren, Cindy and Brandon Langley, and Mandy Crumley of Eclectic, AL. ; great-grandson, Dylan Langley, all of Dothan, AL.; three sisters-in-law, Ora Belle Puckett and Hazel Murrell both of Newport, TN., and Dora Gass of Knoxville, TN… Other than his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two infant children, Susie and Larry Crumley; three sisters, Edna Presnell, Margaret Sentell, and Pauline Crumley; and two brothers, Homer and William Crumley. Funeral services for Mr. Crumley will be conducted on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. from the Manes Funeral Home Chapel in Newport, Tennessee with the Reverends Steve Blanchard and Robb Myers officiating. The interment will follow in the Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 P.M. on Saturday prior to service.
