Ralph “Shorty” H. Gibson, 86, of Alcoa, TN passed away June 21, 2011, at home after a valiant battle with cancer. He was the son of the late William and Minnie Gibson and one of five brothers. On April 12, 1947, he married Eula McFall, who preceded him in death. Mr. Gibson served in the U.S. Army as a medic during World War II. After his discharge, he worked with several companies before gaining employment at ALCOA, Inc., from which he retired in 1987. He was a retired member of Local 309 United Steel Workers of America and member of Masonic Lodge #719. Ralph was a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church in Alcoa. Preceded in death by: Wife, Eula McFall Gibson; Brothers, Arthur, Elmer, Roy and Ray Gibson. Survivors include: Daughter, Linda Castleman of Nashville, TN; Son & Daughter-in-law, Rodney & Jeanne Gibson of Maryville, TN; Grandson, Cody Gibson & fiancé, Amanda McDougald; Granddaughter, Breck McFall Castleman and friend, Jacob Sharbel; Special Sister-in-law, Rose Gibson; several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will assemble for graveside service and interment at 12:00 Noon, Friday, June 24, 2011 at Grandview Cemetery with Rev. Greg Kelly and Rev. George Gilbert officiating. Friends may call at their convenience after 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the funeral home.
