Juanita Rollins Hammontree, age 91, of Alcoa passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 at UT Medical Center. Mrs. Hammontree was a member of Central Baptist Church in Alcoa. She worked during World War II for ALCOA Inc. in the chemical lab, was a substitute teacher for the Vonore Schools, and retired from Levi Strauss. She served as a volunteer at Blount Memorial Hospital, with over 25,000 hours. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James R. Hammontree; son, Johnny Hammontree; 3 brothers; 1 sister; and dogs, Thor and China Doll. She is survived by her son, James L. Hammontree; grandchildren, Johnny Hammontree II, and Holly Hammontree; great-grandson, Johnny Hammontree III; dog, Muffin; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, American Heart Association, PO Box 840692 Dallas, TX 75284-0692. A memorial service will be held at Madison Ave. Baptist Church at 4:00 PM Saturday, May 17, 2014, Rev. Ed Rollins officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM Saturday at Madison Ave. Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Miller Funeral Home, Maryville (865) 982-6041 www.millerfuneralhome.org
