J.C. Whaley of Louisville, TN, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014. He was born March 19, 1930 in Sevier County to Jackson Oliver & Minnie Ezalee Shults Whaley. He served in the United States Army and was a retired Captain after 31 years with the Maryville Fire Department. He was the oldest living fireman of the Department. He was a member of the first Blount County Rescue Squad in 1975 and was a scuba diver for the Squad. After his retirement, he operated Whaley Trucking Company for 16 years. J.C. was a Band manager for his son's band. He was an excellent mechanic and paint & body man. J.C. enjoyed fishing, boating, camping and fast cars. He cherished his memories of his fellow firefighters, loved his children and grandsons dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy Heafner Whaley, brothers, Jackson & Bobby Whaley and Billy Sutton; grandson, James C. Whaley. Survivors include his children Danny R. Whaley, Sandra Baker (Kenneth), Franky C. Whaley (Kim) all of Maryville; brother, Joey Whaley of Maryville; sisters, Diane Rose (David), Donna McCullough all of Maryville; grandsons, Christopher Whaley, Taylor & Garrett Horvath, Jason Haley & Tony Hackney; special family & friends, Doris Martin, Earl & Barbara Whaley, Terry Webb, Bob Vermillion and Marie Brackett. His family would like to thank the staff at Asbury Place, Blount Memorial Hospice, Maryville Fire Department and the Blount County Rescue Squad. The family will receive friends from 5:30pm until 7:00pm Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Smith Trinity Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will be 7:00pm with Chaplain Randy Thompson officiating.
