September 21, 1933 - March 16, 2018 Eugene Tommie Ownby (Daddy) (Papaw) age 84 of Gatlinburg, went home to live out his eternal life with the love of his life, Sue, in Heaven on Friday, March 16, 2018, just 3 days after he lost his “Sue”. This year would have been their 60th year of marriage. Eugene has touched so many people for decades with his beautiful wood carvings, and his Gospel singing with the Heavenly Sunshine Singers. Anyone who was blessed enough to have one of those beautiful carvings will certainly cherish it forever. Eugene had a smile that would light up a room. His laugh was infectious, and his loyalty and love unblemished. His passions were singing gospel and bluegrass, gardening with his grandchildren, fresh tomatoes and corn bread and buttermilk, his family and of course his sweet Sue. Papaw will be missed terribly by his family, his Church family at Glades Lebanon Baptist where he served as Deacon, head Deacon and Song Leader for many years, and his dear friends and anyone who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue; his parents, Charley and Florence (Ogle) Ownby; and his brothers and sisters. Survivors include his children, Rev. Jeff and Megan Ownby, Tony and Elizabeth Ownby, Paige Ownby; grandchildren, Jared and Beth, Erin and Ron, Zach, Savannah, Caleb, Madison Suzann, Destiney and Brandon, Ryan Grace, Rylee, Reese, Lauren, Taylor, and Will; great-grandchildren, Ella Claire, Judson, Aubrey, Allie, Cecilia, Kayleigh and Jett; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 3-5 PM Monday, March 19th with funeral service for both Eugene and Sue to follow at 5 PM at Glades Lebanon Baptist Church, Gatlinburg.
