(September 13, 1911 - March 9, 2008) Nina Smith Brooks, 96, of the Manning’s Chapel Community, passed away, Sunday, March 9, 2008. She was retired from Cocke County Board of Education, where she worked in the cafeteria at Parrottsville High School as well as Parrottsville Elementary. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Brooks; parents Harvey and Cella Smith; granddaughter Regina Brooks Smith; grandson Guy F. ‘Bo” Hawk ,Jr. ; son in law Guy F. Hawk; brothers and sisters Pender Smith, Jeter Smith, Guy Smith, Clyde Smith, Bessie Brooks, Zettie Suggs, Stella Smith, Hilda Smith and Etta Smith, sister in law Eula Dean Sams (Gerdine), brother in law Decatur Brooks. She is survived by her son H.C. ‘Buzz” Brooks , Del Rio, daughters Euretha (Nealious) Byrd, Bruswick,OH,, and Nancy Hawk , Newport, grandchildren J.D. (Ellie) Byrd, Brunswick, OH, and Kristie (Eric) Knight , Newport, eight great-grandchildren Aaron (Kaylee) Smith and Tyler Smith , Del Rio, Cade and Coven Knight, Newport, Brett, Jeremy, Serena and Corrine Byrd of Brunswick, OH., great-great-grandchildren Bodie Smith, Del Rio, Ryan, Tori, and Jesse Byrd, Brunswick,OH., sister Juanita Mantooth, Newport, sister in law Fayetta (Cecil) Brown, Del Rio, many nieces, nephews, great nieces , great nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Wednesday March 12, 2008 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Johnnie Adamson, and Bobby Morrison officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday March 13, 2008 in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral services.
