Edna L. Sweeten, 76, of Newport, went to be with the Lord February 8, 2002, at her residence.
She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith.
Her husband of 39 years, James T. Sweeten; daughter, Elizabeth Toby; parents, Charles and Lou (Roberts) Askew; brother, Robert Askew; and sister, Mary Carter preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Sweeten and his wife, Diane, of Newport, Jerry Sweeten and his wife, Claire, of Newport, and Terry Sweeten and his wife, Sherry, of Newport; daughters, Mary, Carolyn Gregg and her husband, J.D., of Newport, Barbara Marshall and her husband, Larry, of Newport, and Sandra Kay Sutton and her husband, Michael, of Cosby; sister, Anna Rhea Starnes, of Newport, fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sweeten will also be missed by several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral service will be Sunday, February 10, 2002, at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Timothy Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery.
The family received friends Saturday evening, February 9, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
