November 13, 1934 - November 29, 2015
Kevin Lamb, a native of the Nough community and a long-time Newport resident died Sunday afternoon after a brief battle with cancer. He was born November 13, 1934 to James Patton Lamb and Bertie Clark Lamb, who were farmers and merchants in the Nough community for many years. He attended Cocke County public schools, including the two room schoolhouse at Harmony Grove where he encountered a young teacher named Eula Dene Stokely who had come back from a year at Hiwassee College and was teaching her first year. He graduated from Cocke County High School in 1954. Upon graduation he married Eula Stokely in a methodist service by the Reverend Jim Turner, at the bride’s parents’ house. They loaded all their worldly goods in a used Studebaker and headed to Washington DC where he started a job with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. They were married for 61 years and reared three children, returning to Cocke County following the birth of his first child. For many years he operated Jim Lamb grocery in partnership with his dad. Later he was a long-haul truck driver for Bush Brothers in Dandridge. In the late 1980s he purchased Newport Hardware, which he operated until his retirement. In retirement he dedicated himself to his family. He seldom declined a request from one of his children to help paint a room, mow the yard, watch a grandchild, or just “sit and visit a while.” In the last several years he had dedicated himself to caring for his wife as her health declined. Kevin Lamb was widely known in the Del Rio community and later in Newport for his honesty, his hard work, and for being a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, neighbor and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmy Lamb. He is survived by his wife Eula Dene Stokely Lamb of the home; daughter Teresa Levey and her husband Dr. Robert Levey of Knoxville, TN; son Kevin W. Lamb and wife Donna of Newport; son, Dr. Russell Lamb and wife Jennifer of Hilton Head Island, SC; grandchildren Brandy Helton, Cory Helton and Lindsey, Katie Lamb and Maddie Lamb all of Knoxville, TN; Thomas Lamb and Caroline Lamb of Hilton Head Island, SC; and great grandchildren Ella Helton and Ava Faulkner. He is also survived by one sister Dene Lamb Rathbone. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 from 4:30 to 6:30 in the Chapel at First United Methodist Church in Newport, TN, with funeral following immediately in the Chapel. Interment 11:00 AM Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Union Cemetery. Family and friends may sign the guest register online at www.manesfunerahome.com. Arrangements by Manes Funeral Home.
