BELK , VERBON LEE "RED" - age 84 of Calhoun, Tenn. died Monday, August 1, 2005, in Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Kingsport, Tennessee, resident of McMinn County, Tennessee most of his life and a son of the late William Henry and Dora Ellen Light Belk . He was a member of Lamontville Baptist Church, 50 year member of Hiwassee Masonic Lodge #188, and Scottish Rite. He was a proud veteran of World War II having served on the USS Izard in the US Navy. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Lillie Alice Farmer Belk on Sept. 10, 2002 and brother, Fred Belk sister, Gertie Sanders. Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Jerry Belk , Reliance, TN two daughters and sons-in-law, Adonya and Gary Smith, Riceville, TN, Sharon and Gary Coleman, Calhoun, TN brother, Houston Belk , Sweetwater, TN ten grandchildren, Ryan Reither, Richard Reither, Trent and Brandon Smith, Holly Whaley, Angela Belk Standridge and Amber Belk , Jessica, Emily and Nathan Belk eight great grandchildren, Coleman Paul, Dixie Paul, Savannah Smith, Ashley and Benjamin Reither, Lily Shay Whayley, Gia and Ava Standridge close friend, David Lance, Asheville, North Carolina several nieces and nephews. Funeral services 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Rev. Chip Hammonds and Rev. Richard Chastain officiating. Interment will follow in Lower Spring Creek Cemetery with Military Honors. Active pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be friends at the Hardee's in Calhoun, TN. The family will receive friends in Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home, Athens, TN from 6-8 Wednesday. A Masonic service will follow visitation conducted by the Hiwassee Masonic Lodge #188.
