Jim Franklin entered the gates of Heaven on December 5, 2005, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
Jim was a member of First Christian Church of Newport. Jim was also a dedicated employee of ConAgra for 35 years, Jim was loved dearly by his co-workers and will be truly missed.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Rosetta Ottinger, and a brother, Keith Ottinger.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Linda Gregg Franklin, of the home.
Jim leaves behind a very special nephew, whom he thought of as a son, Sgt. Larry Gregg and his wife, Crystal, and two very special goddaughters, Kacie and Cadence, of Newport.
Also, brothers and sisters-in-law, Freddy and Nora Franklin and Lynn and Lola Ottinger, of Parrottsville, and a sister-in-law, Sue Ottinger, of Newport. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Allen and Kay Gregg, John and Judy Gregg, of Newport, and Norma Jean and Roy Wines, of Parrottsville.
A very special niece and her husband, Crystal and Terry Dale Mantooth, and their children, Tyler and Kalsea; niece, Kim Gregg, of Newport, and nieces, Samantha Lowery and Connie Shepard, of Parrottsville. Nephews, Drew Allen Gregg Jr., Johnny Lynn Gregg Barnett, and Wendy Franklin, Charlie and Missy Ottinger, all of Newport, Jeff and Mike Franklin, of Parrottsville; Tim and Jureta Gregg, of Parrottsville; and Marty and Jeannie Gregg.
Jim also will be missed by special friends, Rev. Charles and Cecilia (Tillie) Owensby, whom he thought of as a sister and a brother, of Newport, and dear friends, Rex and Sharan Ottinger, of Parrottsville.
He also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, and cousins, along with a host of friends.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 8, and Friday, December 9, 2005, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Manes Funeral Home.
The funeral will be on Saturday, December 10, 2005, at 1 p.m. Manes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Ed Hardison and the Rev. Charles Owensby and the Rev. Charles Ottinger.
Interment will be following services at GreenLawn Memory Gardens in Greeneville, Tenn.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Lynn Gregg, Barney Franklin, Mike Franklin, Rex Ottinger, Everett Ottinger, Jacky Askew, and Kenny Ottinger. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Mantooth and co-workers.
