- Ann Burt, a midwife, had acquired a local reputation for ministereing to the
sick, she had been presented on charges of witchcraft in 1669. "Widow Burt
practiced healing. Like certain other women who had this skill, she was
vulnerable to accusations of witchcraft from disappointed patients or
suspicious neighbors."
