Burtice Jane Carson Layman , 95, died Friday, September 27, 2013. She was a resident at Dillon Living Center. She was born July 17, 1918, on a farm north of Zenith, Kansas, the daughter of Cephas and Minnie Swisher Carson.
Burtice graduated from Sylvia High School in 1935. On July 24, 1940, she married Joy Layman . He died in 1952. She was a secretary at South Hutchinson Elementary School for 26 years before retiring in 1983. Burtice was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ. She was also a charter member of Towne and Country FCE.
She is survived by: sons, Terry Layman and wife Carole, Lebanon, Oregon, and Richard (Rick) Layman and wife Marla, Broomfield, Colorado; grandchildren, John Layman , Olathe, Kansas, Ty Layman , Broomfield, Colorado, Jennifer Drouhard, Derby, KS, Jonathan Yoder, Independence, Oregon, and Jamison and wife Sarah Yoder of Garden Plain, KS; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Beryl Stiggins, and a foster brother, Robert (Bob) Carson.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Jimie-Wray Mead presiding. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery. Friends may call Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
