TOWNSEND, MR. CLYDE "RED" - age 73, of West Knoxville, passed away peacefully Monday, October 22, 2001, at Brakebill Nursing Home. He was of the Baptist Faith and a well-known Project Superintendent in industrial and commercial construction. He was employed with V. L. Nicholson Company for 17 years and retired from Rentenbach Engineering Company in 1983 after 17 years of service. He held a 50-year gold life membership in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, Local No. 50. He was a member of South Knoxville Lodge No. 769 F&AM. He was a 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite Masonic Temple and a Noble in good standing of the Shriner's Kerbela Temple. Preceded in death by parents, Beecher and Elizabeth Townsend; brothers, Carl, C. D., and John; sister, Nadine Clark; first wife, Ethel "Lovin" Townsend and mother and father-in-law, Frank and Frances Klein.
Survived by wife, Kay; sons, Dwight, and Chris and daughter-in-law, Jill; grandson, Brian; sisters-in-law, Janice and Maudell Townsend; brother-in-law, Milo Clark, and many nieces and nephews and special friends, the light of his life in later years, Miss Caroline Jones. Many thanks to all the friends, neighbors, and medical personnel who cared for him during his many years of on-going illnesses. He touched so many with his love of life and our lives have become more special because he gave so much to so many. He taught us all about the little things and about appreciating each day to the fullest and he will remain in our hearts always. Mr. Townsend is at Highland Memorial Funeral Home, 5315 Kingston Pike, where the family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Highland Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in his memory.
