Arlene Metcalf Davis, age 70, of Newport, went to be with her Savior on Saturday, January 31, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Arlene was a lifelong resident of Newport where she and her husband, L.V., worked as owner/operators of a number of restaurants through the years and also an active member of the First Free Will Baptist Church of Newport. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Glennie Johnson Metcalf. She is survived by her husband, L.V. Davis, of Newport; daughters, Sheila Balch and husband David, of Dandridge, and Melanie Lanham and husband Glen, of West Lafayette, Indiana; brother, Bill Metcalf and wife Nellie, of Thomasville, North Carolina; sister, Louise Metcalf Reeves, of Greeneville; granddaughters, Naomi Balch Brown and husband Jeff, of Oak Ridge, and Sarah Balch, of San Jose, California; and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m., Monday, February 16, 2009, followed by a Memorial Service at 8 p.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church, 188 Jimtown Road, Newport, with the Reverend Eddie Young officiating.
