U.S. Veteran L. V. Davis, age 81, of Newport, passed away at his home on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. L. V. was a lifelong resident of Newport and a veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Arlene Davis; parents, Collis and Donie Davis; and his brother, Charles Berryhill. He is survived by his wife Louise Kelley Davis of Newport; his daughters, Sheila Balch and husband David of Dandridge and Melanie Lanham and husband Glen of Pittsboro, NC; his granddaughters, Naomi Brown and husband Jeff of Knoxville and Sarah Balch of San Jose, California; his great-grandsons, Elijah and Micah Brown; and his brothers, O. V., Bill, Johnny, Jimmy and Jerry Davis. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to his caregiver Brandi Ford, who made it possible for him to spend his final days at home and Jennifer Olsson who also helped care for him. The family will receive friends on Sunday December 8, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm with the funeral services following at 8:00 pm in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Naomi Brown officiating. Entombment will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, December 9, 2013 in Resthaven Memorial Mausoleum.
