Man dies in single-vehicle wreck
Author: Nelson Morais
NEWPORT—A 62-year-old resident of Elana Lane, in Newport, died in a single-vehicle wreck on Saturday, Nov. 3, the Newport Police Department reported.
Charles Roger Woods, 62, of 602 Elana Lane, in Newport, was the passenger in a 2005 Dodge Neon driven by his wife, Sandra K. Woods, 60, of the same address.
Sandra Woods, and another passenger, went to Newport Medical Center for a check-up on “possible” injuries, Patrolman Allen Stump reported.
Sandra Woods told Stump that at about 10:40 a.m., she was trying to turn right on Seehorn Drive, off of Rankin Road, and hit a utility pole.
According to Stump’s report, Woods’ vehicle left Rankin Road, traveled down a ditch, hit and then jumped a cul- vert, and landed on Seehorn, causing gouge marks on the road.
The vehicle then allegedly hit a stop sign and came to rest against a utility pole on Rankin Road, Stump reported. When officers arrived, they allegedly found Charles Woods sitting in a passenger seat.
Stump told The Newport Plain Talk that officers removed Woods from the vehicle, and he performed CPR on the accident victim, who was unresponsive, for about 10 minutes.
EMS personnel and an ambulance arrived.
Charles Woods was later transported by ambulance to Newport Medical Center.
As a result of the accident, Charles Woods’ airbag was activated.
Shaylynn Hance, 7, also of the same Elana Lane address, was the other passenger in the Dodge Neon, according to Stump’s report.
