CMSGT, RETIRED - of Alcoa passed peacefully away at his home on Thursday, January 12, 2006 surrounded by his loving family and friends. Jim was born on June 29, 1930, in Bluefield, WV. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 27 years, including Korea and Vietnam. Jim was an active member of St. Marks United Methodist Church. He is survived by: wife for over 50 years, Sue Ogle Garst children, Brenda Rucker of Alcoa, Janie Conner of Dayton, OH, Jean Kelly of Louisville, and Jim Garst & wife Mary of Seymour. Jim's grandchildren are Kim Rucker of Franklin, TN , Michael Conner of Dayton, OH, Brian Kelly of Murfreesboro, TN , Lori Kelly of Nashville, TN , Jim Garst of San Antonio, TX, and Tommy Garst of Sevierville. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Peilecke of Richmond, VA. His aunt Marietta Calfee of Bluefield, WV, aunt Polly Bandy of Orlando, FL and uncle Bob Cox of Tazewell, WV. Jim will be missed by his faithful companion, Charlie the cat. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 PM, Friday, January 13, 2006 with funeral service immediately following in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Mike Ogle and Chaplain Anne Sprouse officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 14, 2006 at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you may honor Jim's memory with a donation, to either the Community Food Connection, PO Box 786, Alcoa, TN , of which he was a charter member and lifetime volunteer, or to the Blount Memorial Hospice, 1095 E.
