OZINGA DR. JAMES R. Age 80, a resident of Rochester Hills, Michigan died in his home on September 11, 2012. He lived a full life and had a family who loved him very much. Jim was born in Grand Rapids, MI in 1932. He earned his undergraduate degrees at Calvin College and Western Michigan University and a PhD from Michigan State University. He became Professor of Political Science at Oakland University in 1967, retiring as Professor Emeritus in 2001. He also served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Jim enjoyed spending time up north at the lake, traveling, singing, performing on stage, and being with his family. He was a published author of textbooks and in his retirement he turned to publishing fiction. He met the love of his life, Suzanne (Willard) Ozinga of New Buffalo, Michigan in 1959 and never looked back. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 31, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Sue, his three children, Michael Ozinga , Kurt S. Ozinga (Heike), Karen S. Ziegenmeyer (Karl), and his four grandchildren: Heidi Z. Vanegas (Moctezuma), Heather S. Ziegenmeyer, Kurt S. Ozinga , and James M. Ozinga , his brother Thomas Ozinga , sister Marjorie VanDyke, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Esther R. Ozinga . Jim's spirit shone when he interacted with others. He had a caring heart, a sharp wit, and an iron will. He will be remembered. Arrangements made through Potere-Modetz Funeral Home.
