Zonnie Jay Stegeman Whaley , 46, a resident of Wenatchee, died Sunday morning, March 7, 2010, at his home in Wenatchee. He was born in Tacoma on April 11, 1963. At an early age, he moved with his parents to Peshastin and, in 1974, to Wenatchee, where he attended school. In 1979, he moved to Manson, where he attended school and met his wife-to-be, Cassie Howell. They were married in 1981, and had two children, Kirsten and Ryan. He later moved back to Wenatchee, where he went to work for B.L. & G. Logging for 15 years. Zonnie later went to work in California for about a year for Erickson Sky Crane and then started his own business cutting and topping trees. He later moved back to Wenatchee, where he worked for D & S Trucking, Simms Trucking and later for Interstate Trucking until his accident in 2004, when he could no longer work.
Zonnie is survived by his parents, Bert and Phyllis Stegeman of Leavenworth; daughter, Kirsten Montague of Salt Lake City, UT; son, Ryan Montague of Clear Water Beach, FL; sister, Zanee J. Skinner and her husband, Jeff of Central Point, OR; two grandsons, Jordan and Nolan Montague; several aunts and uncles; nieces, Kirsten Skinner and Kendra Skinner, both of Central Point Oregon and Brittney Stegeman of Leavenworth; and lots of cousins.
A Funeral Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Zonnie Jay Stegeman Whaley will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at 1:00 p.m., at Ward's Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth, with Rev. Russell Esparza officiating. Interment and concluding Service will be in the Peshastin Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 12, 2010, at Ward's Funeral Chapel from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the MS Society at 818 East Sharp, Spokane, WA 99202 or the charity or one's choice. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
