(Whaley) Stegeman , 69, a lifelong resident of Peshastin, WA and Leavenworth, WA, died in her sleep Friday morning, November 23, 2012, in her home at Leavenworth. She was born June 25, 1943, to Burl and Sylvia (Mounter) Whaley at Wenatchee. Phyllis grew up in Peshastin, where she graduated from Peshastin-Dryden High School. After graduating, she worked at the Cashmere Nursing Home, Peshastin Fruit Growers and the Dryden Independent Warehouse. She later went to work for her parents cooking at the old Big Y Cafe; and at Whaley's North Shore Inn at Manson. Phyllis met and married the love of her life, Cuthbert Stegeman , on July 9, 1965, at Cle Elum, WA, by Bert's uncle, who was a judge. She spent the next 45 years trying to 'tame him' and got about three-quarters the way there the last few years. Phyllis spent her life living in Peshastin, Leavenworth and Wenatchee and finally back to Leavenworth to the old home place up Eagle Creek, where Bert stayed by her side with lots of love and care up to the very end. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Bert Stegeman of the family home; her children, Zanee (Jeff) Skinner, and Brittney Stegeman and her partner, Adam Smith; grandchildren, Kirsten and Ryan, Kirsten and Kendra; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Nolan and Rosalean; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister; and her son, Zonnie. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the people of Central Washington Hospital Hospice and a very special thanks to Dr. Maury Hafermann, who took such great care of Phyllis . A Funeral Service of Commemoration to celebrate the life of Phyllis M. (Whaley) Stegeman will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at Ward's Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Ward's Funeral Chapel. Concluding Service and Interment will be in the Peshastin Cemetery.
