Teddy Raymond Whaley passed away Saturday evening, September 21, 2013 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane surrounded by family. He was born on February 16, 1943 to Dewey and Ponhee Whaley in Wenatchee, WA. He grew up in Peshastin, WA and received his early education at Peshastin-Dryden. After high school, he attended WSU. He resided the majority of his life in Peshastin, but also lived in Spokane, Kennewick, and Selah for a brief period. Ted was employed in many of the orchards in the Valley and that is where he loved to be. In high school, Ted enjoyed playing sports. His favorite sport was basketball and he was called "Automatic Ted" because he scored at least 20 points a game. He also played football and did track. Later on in life, he enjoyed gardening and watching sports. He is survived by his mother, Ponhee Whaley of East Wenatchee; one sister, Sue Whaley of Wenatchee; two daughters, Gretchen Modrell (Ken) of Monitor and Rachel Triplett (Chad) of Edmonds; stepdaughters, Donna Klaussen of Spokane and Diane Zielinski (Rod) of Canada; nine grandchildren, Jonathan, Wil, Julynn, C.W., Amber, Matthew, Ali, Brett and Julie; one niece, Angie Snodgrass (Ralph) of Alaska; one nephew, John Brosseit (Amy) of East Wenatchee; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Dewey Whaley and a brother, Darrell Whaley . On Saturday, October 26, 2013, a Memorial Luncheon will be held to celebrate the life of Ted Whaley at Peshastin United Church of Christ at 2:00 p.m. Those who wish, may make a memorial in his name to the charity of their choice. Heritage Funeral Chapel in Spokane was in charge of the arrangements.
