Mrs. Beulah Creswell Mason Kerr Noble passed from this life on August 26, 2011 in Kerrville TX. Mrs. Noble was born in Chattanooga TN on December 31, 1906. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mrs. Eleanor McConkey of Knoxville TN and Mrs. Edna Byers of Brookline MA; and her husband of nearly 50 years and father of her four children, Arthur Bradley (Brad) Mason of Bell County, KY (deceased November 1974). Her second marriage was to an old former school chum, John H. Kerr of Sevier County, TN (deceased August 1983). Her third marriage at the age of 84 was to Gordon O. Noble of Beeville TX. She and Mr. Noble travelled and danced until he passed away in 1992.
Three of her four children and one grandson also preceded her in death: son, Edward Everett Mason of Coral Gables, FL; twin daughters Mary Katherine (Kay) Terry of Ingram TX, Elizabeth Jane (Jay) Johnston Creswell of San Antonio, and Jay’s son Gerald Bradley Johnston (world class Pentathlete), also of San Antonio.
She is survived by one daughter, Jeanne Mason Jetton of Ingram, ten grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The 104 years of “Boo-Boo’s” life were productive, interesting times. Her father was Edward Everett Creswell, a Tennessee State Legislator. Her mother, Mary “Polly” Ogle of Gatlinburg TN, was a school teacher in the early days of the 1900’s. She and Brad met in Tennessee at Lincoln Memorial University and eloped after a three year courtship. They came to the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas as a young couple with their infant son in 1927. The trip from Tennessee in their Stutz Bearcat took over a week. Boo-Boo told the story that when they first arrived at the state line of Texas, she stepped out in her red high heels and declared, “Here I am, Texas, and you’ll never be the same.”
She and Brad settled in San Benito where he worked for many years for the International Boundary Commission. He later established his own civil engineering practice there. They reared their children in San Benito. After her children graduated from college, she went back to school at Pan American University in Edinburg, TX where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in History. Boo-Boo was an accomplished concert pianist before she was 20 years old and later taught music in elementary school for many years in the Rio Grande Valley; as well as in New Orleans LA where she and Brad lived while he was employed by the US Naval Department as a civilian engineer for 5 years prior to their retirement. In later years she entertained other nursing home residents with her music until she was 97. After retirement, they moved to Junction TX where they resided until after Brad passed away. She was a member of the Chanes Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Junction.
Mrs. Noble will be interred at Shiloh Cemetery in Sevierville TN at a later date.
