Danny Dale Wester Sr. 67, of Newport, TN passed on to be with The Lord on March 18, 2014 at his home after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Danny was born in Greeneville, TN to Hugh and Selma Wester. Danny was married to Elaine Brockwell Wester, the love of his life, for 48 years. He was a 1964 graduate from CCHS and attended Carson Newman College. Danny was the owner of Dixie Music, then Dixie Pawn Shop and beloved by his customers and the community. He was elected Alderman in the 1970s. He later was elected vice mayor then Mayor of Newport in the later 1980s thru the 1990s. He was a long time Church leader at West End Baptist Church. He was Sunday school director, children's church leader, Deacon, and bus driver. He accomplished much, but bringing people to Christ is what his real accomplishment was! Later in life he enjoyed attending New Hope Church of Kodak, TN for their joyous worship services. He was preceded in death by his parents, Selma "Peggy" and Hugh; and brother, Benny; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dub and Hazel Brockwell.
Danny is survived by his wife Elaine Wester, sons Danny Wester Jr. and wife Melissa, Wade Wester and wife Linda, grandchildren Joshua Wester and wife Jillian, Mika, Coby and Katie Wester; sisters Sandra Lamb and Linda McKay and husband Harold, brother-in-law Terry Brockwell and wife Jan and his beloved pets Ripley and Dixie. Danny will be remembered for his kindness, the help he provided to so many, by all the kids he coached, However he will be most remembered by his family as the best Dad that anyone could ever have. Graveside service was held Wednesday, March 19, 2014 in Union Cemetery. Pastor Tom Mooty said the invocation. Pastors Tom and Brenda Sterbens from New Hope Church in Kodak, TN sang 'Leave Nothing Behind' as requested by Danny Sr. The Wester family is requesting in lieu of flowers for donations to be sent to West End Baptist Church, 116 Westend Street, Newport, TN 37821 or New Hope Church, 2450 Winfield Dunn Parkway, Kodak, TN 37764.

Former Mayor Danny Wester, Sr. dies

NEWPORT—Former Newport Mayor Danny Wester, Sr. died Monday at his home following a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 67.
A well-known businessman, church and community leader, Wester was one of the youngest people ever to serve as Newport’s mayor.
First elected to the position of Alderman in the 1970s, he later served as Newport’s Vice-Mayor before his election to the office of Mayor in the late 1980s.
Over the years, Wester’s business interests also multiplied. He was owner of Dixie Music and later Dixie Pawn Shop.
