Ogle/Carver wedding
Mandy Joe Ogle and Jonathan Travis Carver were married recently in an evening ceremony in Chattanooga.
The bride is the daughter of Judy and Larry Henderson and Vicki and Bill Ogle of Sevierville. She is the granddaughter of Vada McClure and the late Earl McClure and the late Fred and Winifred Henderson and the late David and Wilma Ogle, all of Sevierville.
The groom is the son of Jackie and Susan Carver of Belvidere, Tennessee. He is the grandson of the late Jack and Doris Carver of Manchester and the late Ralph and Bonita Travis of Winchester. The ceremony was held on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 6 p.m. in Patten Chapel on the UTC campus. Pastor Ray Williams officiated. The pianist was Jan McNair.
The historical, red brick chapel provided the backdrop for the wedding ceremony. Beautiful stained glass windows, Gothic chandeliers, and ornate woodwork were complimented by antiqued bronze and glass hurricane lanterns and Manzanita trees strung with crystals teardrops gracing the altar. Family pews were marked with silver-framed photos of the bride and groom and held in place with taffeta ribbons. The bride was walked down the aisle by her stepfather, “Pop,” and given in marriage by him and her mother. Mandy wore a custom made strapless Allure couture gown of ivory taffeta with a romantic beaded sweetheart neckline. The ivory colored lace overlay was appliquéd with Swarovski crystals and pearls and featured a low v-cut back with a flared skirt which flowed into a chapel train. The fit and flare gown was belted with a flowing satin ribbon highlighted with Swarovski crystals and pearls.
The bride’s chapel length veil, trimmed in Chantilly lace, had been worn by Jon’s mother. It was held in place by an elegant organza and pearl floral comb that was a gift from the groom. She wore waterfall Swarovski crystal and pearl earrings and a matching bracelet. Mandy’s stylish brooch bouquet was made by her mother and featured heirloom brooches from family members that were arranged in the centers of white roses and peonies and accented with rose ranunculus. She wore pearl and crystal covered stilettos that were hand-covered by her mother with pearls and crystals that had belonged to members of both families. Flanked by the attendants, the bride and groom stood with the minister in the historic stone sanctuary as he gave a brief oratory on the sanctity of marriage and the importance of friends and family to support the new couple. Pastor Williams led the congregation in a prayer to bless and strengthen the ties of the couple through their faith in God. The couple exchanged vows and rings. The ceremonial kiss was greeted with cheers and applause by family and friends. The smiling couple left the chapel and walked the stone path through a shower of bubbles blown by the guests.
Crystal JanseVanRensburg served at the matron of honor. Serving as bridesmaids were Natalie Phillips, Nikki Mack, Tiffany Glaze and Taylor Leo. The bridesmaids wore blushcolored fitted, empire waist gowns that were overlaid in matching lace by Watters. The attendants wore earrings that were gifts from the bride. Their bouquets were made by Mandy’s mother and featured chrysanthemums and peonies wrapped with grapevine. Craig Carver was his brother’s best man. Serving as groomsmen were: Hunter Henderson, brother of the bride, Ronny Ankar, Michael Kaplan, Bruce Spencer, Todd Schneiderman, Justin Henderson, Eric Kirkland, Jeremy Eaves and Geoffrey Tiller. The groom, groomsmen, and fathers wore Calvin Klein summer suits with striped silk ties. Boutonnieres with a tiny Rappla and spring greenery showed the groom’s fishing tastes.
The flower girls were Areyona McClure and Mille JanseVanRensburg. Each wore a contemporary tea-length dress with a lace bodice and chiffon skirt accented with satin ribbon and a silk flower at the bodice. Ballet slippers graced their feet. They carried tulle and ribbon covered baskets filled with rose petals. The ring bearer was Otto JanseVanRensburg, who wore a dapper spring suit and a bow tie. He carried two family Bibles wrapped in ribbon and flowers to match the bride’s bouquet. The Bibles had belonged to a grandfather of the bride and a grandmother of the groom.
The mother of the bride wore a floorlength, fitted strapless gown with a fluted skirt. The champagne gown with a sweetheart neckline was covered with an elegant beaded and appliquéd overlay. A pleated satin belt with colored stones and crystals on the bow accented the bodice. The mother of the groom wore a fitted, sleeveless, floor length coral gown with a ruched waistline and a low-draped back detail.
The reception was held at the Loose Cannon. In lieu of signing a guest book, wedding guests signed their names and wishes on a framed photo of the couple at the reception. Tables were decorated with white tablecloths and topped with pewter lanterns with glowing candles surrounded by ivy and sprinkled with handmade paper roses. Guests were greeted with a sumptuous buffet and danced the night away to the music and songs performed by the band, Men of Soul. The wedding cake was three tiers of chocolate raspberry, lemon, and strawberry layers covered in butter cream frosting and decorated with confectionary magnolia blossoms and satin ribbon.
The rehearsal dinner was hosted by the parents of the groom at Food Works, a renovated turn-of-the-century knitting mill in Chattanooga. Other prenuptial events included: a bridal shower given by Cynthia DuVall at her antebellum home in Liepers Fork on March 16; a bridal shower given at the home of Jan Cox in Tullahoma and hosted by Jan Cox, Linda Giltner, Helen McClure, Kathy McMillan and Brenda Pollock on April 6; and a bachelorette party hosted by Crystal JanseVanRensburg at a chalet in Gatlinburg on April 20. The bachelor’s trip was a memorable three day event in New Orleans hosted by the groomsmen.
A wedding day brunch for the couple and the attendants was hosted by Natalie Phillips at a penthouse suite in Chattanooga which offered an exceptional backdrop for pre-wedding photos just blocks from Patten Chapel.
The couple honeymooned at a seaside villa in Negril, Jamaica. Jon and Mandy Carver now reside in Chattanooga.
