FRENCH , HERBERT M. (BABY RAY) - age 87, of New Market, TN passed away Tuesday morning, May 11, 2004 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He owned and operated French 's Grocery in Piedmont with his wife, Thelma, for 34 years. He was a faithful member and trustee of Piedmont Baptist Church, a life time member of the Jefferson County Craft Association, and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Hugh and Minnie Ann French brothers, Winfred, Shade, Leonard, Herman, Haskel and Dexter C. (Doss) and sister, Myrtle Kerr. He is survived by: his wife of 55 years, Thelma Leonard French daughter, Linda Gray and husband, Michael grandson, Curtis Hickman and wife, Nora granddaughter, Melody Horvath and husband, Ryan, all of the Piedmont community and sisters, Bonnie Hoskins of Strawberry Plains and Hazel Elder of New Market. Funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004 from the Farrar Dandridge Chapel with Reverend James Kinser and Dr. Clyde Tilley officiating. Graveside interment service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2004 in the Piedmont Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home.
