Geraldean Osment Hughes , 81, died peacefully at home on Saturday, May 26, 2012. She was born on Nov. 13, 1930, a daughter of the late Lester B. Osment (Pony) and Ruby Chase Osment (Monie). She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She started with Miller's department store in 1960 when they were downtown on the Courthouse Square. She stayed with the store through many name and location changes and retired from Proffitt's Department store located in Bradley Square Mall in 2001 after 40-plus years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Fred Hall Hughes ; son, Dennis Wayne Hughes ; sisters: Elizabeth Turner, Geneva Ogle and Elnora Goins; brothers: Raymond N. Osment, Lester B. Osment Jr.; and best friend Virginia Jo Combs. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen H. Bishop and J. David Bishop; granddaughter and husband, Amy Cannon Cantrell and Scott Cantrell; grandson, Andy Cannon, grandchildren, Madison Lee Cantrell and Cooper Hall Cantrell; and "granddogs," Jazz and Camo; stepgreat-grandchildren: Ashlee Kapteina and Josh Cantrell; brothers: Harry Osment and wife, Ella Kate Osment, and Bill Osment and wife, Sweet Osment; and several nieces, nephews and "adopted" grandchildren: David and Dana Yost and Wes Eshenbrenner. A funeral service is planned for Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at 3:30 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 2514 Old Chattanooga Pike S.E., Cleveland, TN 37323 with the Rev. Charles Carroll officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with David Yost, Wes Eshenbrenner, Scott Cantrell, Joel Prince, Steve Cantrell, and Josh Cantrell serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Stan Cantrell and Junior Pallbearer will be Cooper Cantrell. The family will receive friends Tuesday at the church from 1 until the 3:30 p.m. service time. In lieu of flowers, make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, in memory of Geraldean Hughes and in honor of Madison Lee Cantrell.
