HARTGROVE , CARLOS JAMES age 74 of Maynardville, passed away on Tuesday December 27th 2011 at Norris Health and Rehabilitation Center following a three year battle with encephalitis. Carlos was retired from Plasti-Line after 37 years of service. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Maynardville for of 50 years and during that time served the church in many capacities, including Sunday School Superintendent and Trustee. Following his retirement, Carlos spent his time enjoying his grandsons, Haden and Hudson who were the "Light of his Life". Carlos was born to parents Willet and Nell Kitts Hartgrove in Union County where he remained a lifelong resident. Preceded in death by parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and Stella Cox; brother, Edward Leo Hartgrove . He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Millie Cox Hartgrove of Maynardville; son and daughter-in-law, James and Kristie Kitts Hartgrove ; and grandsons, Haden and Hudson Hartgrove , all of Knoxville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye and Eugene Harless, Melba and Curtis McCoy of Florence, SC, Polly and Clinton Littleton of Newport, NC; sister, Ruth Stubbs of Atlanta, GA; brother and sister-in-law, H.C. and Becky Hartgrove of Maryville; brother-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Alco and Shirley Cox, John and Winnie Effler, James G. and Ruth Sexton, Connie Nicely, Tim and Karen Cox, all of Maynardville; several beloved nieces and nephews also survive. Special lifelong friends Ronnie and Linda Irick. The family will receive friends from 5:00- 7:00 p.m. Friday at Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel in Fountain City with the Funeral Service to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Gary Beeler and Rev. Burney Hutchison officiating. Interment will be held at Butcher Cemetery in Union County on Saturday December 31 at 1:00 p.m. with Tri County Veterans Honor Guard providing military honors. Danny Bailey, Randy Turner, Earl Ailor II, Lynn Sexton, James K. "Bud" Whitson, Raymond Buckner, Johnny Jones, and Terry Bailey will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill "Little Bill" Corum, Paul Hill, Ronnie Irick, Ronnie Robbins, Paul Walker, brothers-in-law and nephews. At Carlos ' request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Butcher Cemetery Fund c/o Alco Cox 2405 Hickory Valley Rd. Maynardville TN, 37807.
