June Baird Frazier, age 90, Dayton, TN, died early Tuesday morning, August 20, 2013, at her home in Taylors, South Carolina.
She was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky to the late Jeremiah Winston and Laura (Stokely) Baird. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Gillespie Frazier.
June was raised in Newport and moved to Dayton in 1947. She was a former English teacher at Rhea County High School and had been employed in the East Wing of the White House during the Jimmy Carter administration.
While living in Dayton, June attended the Dayton First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Garden Club and Bridge Club. Upon moving to Chattanooga in 1983, she attended the First Centenary United Methodist Church.
June is survived by her two sons James (Sylvia) Frazier of Taylors, SC and Winston (Louise) Frazier of Knoxville and three grandchildren, Molly Frazier, Andrew Frazier, both of Taylors, SC, and Laura (Tom) Withers of Tunica, MS.
Graveside services for June will be held Saturday, August 24, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the Buttram Cemetery in Dayton with Rev. T.J. Burdine officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband.

Newport native and former White House staffer dies at 90

DAYTON, TN—A Newport native whose severe hearing loss did not prevent her from a career that once included a time working in the White House has died.
June Baird Frazier, who grew up in Newport and graduated from local schools, died Tuesday, August 20, at her home in Taylors, South Carolina. She was 90.
In the mid-1970s, after moving to Washington, D. C. as an employee of the American Enterprise Institute, she became active in the Carter-Mondale campaign and worked at the Democratic National Convention in New York.
