(January 9, 1928 - September 8, 2013) U.S. Veteran Thurman (T. I.) Marion, age 84, of Newport, passed away, Sunday, September 8, 2013. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Ann Marion. He is survived by his wife Ruby Marion of Newport; son, Tim Marion; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and James Taylor all of Newport; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Peggy Marion of Albemarle, North Carolina; niece, Pam Marion, of Albemarle, North Carolina; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Linda and Richard Owens of Newport, Roy and Jean Soper of South Pines, North Carolina; grandson and his wife, Jake and Shannon Marion of Johnson City; also other family and friends. Funeral services will be held 7:00 pm Tuesday, September 10, 2013 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Scott Gorrell officiating. Burial will be held 10:00 am Wednesday, September 11, 2013 in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Tuesday at Manes Funeral Home prior to the funeral service.
