(July 7, 1931 - November 3, 2011) Walter R. Grooms, age 80 of Cosby passed away Thursday, November 3, 2011 at his home. He was a member of the Garver’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Grooms; parents Harve and Phoebe Grooms; sisters, Beulah Baxter, Trula Benson, Belva Hunt and Viola Benson; brothers, Bricky, Johnny and Elvie Grooms. He is survived by his sons, David Grooms of Cosby and Billy Grooms and wife, Frankie of Greeneville; brother, Leroy Grooms and wife, Unavee Grooms of Cosby; sister Ruby and Charles Gunter of Cosby; granddaughter, Amanda McCamey and husband, Todd of Knoxville; great granddaughter, Allie McCamey of Knoxville and a host of other special family and friends. A special thanks to Charlie Grooms, Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice and Signature Health for all their kindness and great help. Funeral services will be held at 8:00 pm Friday, November 4, 2011 at Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Henderson officiating. Burial will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 5, 2011 in Webb-Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday prior to funeral service.
