Gordon Abbott, age 91, transitioned peacefully into Jesus’ arms at his home Tuesday, June 25, 2013. Gordon, the son of Earl and Vertie Abbott, was born and raised in Cades Cove. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church, and retired from KUB and K-12, Oak Ridge. He joined his wife, Virginia; daughter, Sherry; and sister, Velma Clabough. Survived by his family, daughter, Pam Gravatt; grandson, Gabriel and wife, Kathy Gravatt and their children, Matthew, 7, and Caitlin, 6, who lovingly surrounded Papaw … until we all meet together again … Also survived by son, Phil Abbott, and wife, Kim, and their daughter, Kacie. A graveside service will be on Friday, June 28, 2013, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, at 3 p.m. Special thanks to Cable Trent, who has ministered to the family for many years.
