Reaford McCarter, born on April 20, 1923 to James Harrison McCarter and Ida Mae Cole McCarter, went to be with his Lord on January 2, 2004.
Reaford was an Army veteran of World War II. He retired from the Great Smoky Mountain National Park with 37 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Theodore, Carl, and Buford, his sister, Veat Ownby and sister-in-law Fanny McCarter.

Daughter and Son-in-law: Robbie Kay and Tom Beckner
Son and Daughter-in-law: Reaford Michael and Carol McCarter
Grandchildren: Jennifer McCarter Fortenberry and husband Jacob, Eric McCarter, Will and Karetza Beckner, Chassy and Kimi McCarter
Great Grandchildren: Hailey and Haiden Fortenberry
Sisters-in-law: Margie McCarter and Lee McCarter
Brother-in-law: Hube Ownby
Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews
He is also survived by his wife’s parents Jesse and Dicie Helton and their extended family.
Family and friends will meet 4 PM Sunday at Mountain View Cemetery for graveside service and interment with his grandson William Beckner and Rev. Bill Dennison officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be: Eric McCarter (grandson), Jim McCarter, Sam Carr, Rod and Stan McCarter, Jeff and Richie Pierce, and JR Dixon (great nephews).
