Herbert Jarnigan, 74, of Newport, went to be with the Lord Thursday evening, December 19, 2002, at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was a former truck driver for Rhyne Lumber Co. and a Baptist by faith.
His parents, Ira and Nannie (Ealy) Jarnigan; grandson, David Jarnigan; great-grandson, Dylan Jarnigan; and brother, Haskell Jarnigan preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 47 1/2 years, Margaret (Brown) Jarnigan, of Newport; son, Michael Jarnigan, of Newport; stepson, Charlie Brown, of Mosheim; stepsister, Joann Smelcher and her husband, Kenneth, of Newport; grandchildren, Shan M. Jarnigan and his wife, Jennifer, Michael Jarnigan and his wife, Tuesday, Robbie Jarnigan and his wife, Jackie, Leslie, Lindsey, and Codie Brown; great-grandchildren, Brittany Macy Jarnigan, Blade Jarnigan, and Kendrick Jarnigan. Mr. Jarnigan will also be missed by a special niece, Gail Henderson, of Newport.
Funeral service will be Sunday, December 22, 2002, at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Owensby and Rev. Ronnie Ball officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery.
The family received friends Saturday evening, December 21, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
Military service will be conducted by L'CPL Charles C. Roberts DAV Chapter 102, of Newport.
Brown Funeral Home has been honored to provide the final arrangements for Mr. Herbert Jarnigan.
