TWO JACKSBORO STUDENTS DIE FROM INJURIES IN CAR-TRAIN COLLISION
Two Jacksboro High School students were killed after the car they were in was struck by a Southern Railway train Monday morning.
David Lynn Johnson, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. David N. Johnson, Jacksboro, died Tuesday night at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville.
Police authorities said that the young men, driving a small foreign car, apparently attempted to cross the track at Jacksboro Crossing after barriers had been lowered to warn of the oncoming train. The train, a fast freight, was traveling about 55 miles per hour.
Besides his parents, young Johnson is survived by three brothers, Brent, Beecher, and Carl Johnson; one sister, Mrs. Beverly Johnson; grandfather, Harold Boshears; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lacy Cox; great-grandfather, Brown Boshears, all of Jacksboro; and his great-grandmother, Mrs. Maggie Grizzel of Sharp Chapel.
Funeral services for both boys are set for today (Thursday) at Mt. Paran Baptist Church.
