GODDARD , ALVIN BOYD died on February 8, 2013. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, at Grandview Cemetery in Maryville, Tennessee. Family and friends will gather in the chapel there. A native of Maryville, Tennessee, Boyd was a part of "The Greatest Generation" that served in the United States Army during World War II. Following his discharge from the Army, Boyd came back to Maryville and embarked upon a career in the hardware business. He later moved to Montgomery, Alabama, and became a district sales representative in the roofing division of Celotex Corporation. Following his retirement from Celotex, Boyd became an independent roofing consultant to architects and contractors in the greater Montgomery area. Boyd was a long-time leader in the First United Methodist Church of Montgomery. He served as chairman of the Administrative Board, the chairman of the Board of Trustees, the president of the Tower Sunday School Class, and a faithful member of the Cathedral Choir. He was also a 33rd Degree Mason. Boyd was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Spraker Goddard ; his brother, Walter Goddard ; and his sisters, Martha Hamilton and Louise Hightower. He is survived by his sister, Ruth Cochran; his sister-in-law, Hazel Goddard ; nine nephews and nieces: Wesley Hightower, Gwen Welch, Jim Goddard , Nancy Fitzpatrick, Tom Hamilton, Robert Hamilton, Steve Hamilton, Phil Hamilton, Martha Hamilton; and many cousins. Memorial gifts may be directed to the Music Ministry of the First United Methodist Church of Maryville, Tennessee, 804 Montvale Station Road, Maryville, Tennessee 37803; or the Stegall Seminary Scholarship Foundation, P.
