(October 12, 1948 - February 28, 2013) U.S. Veteran Sammy Jerry Griffin, age 64, of Maryville, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eva Hurst and Monroe Schultz; brother, Charles Schultz; sister, May Lloyd; and brother-in-law, Earl Bogle. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Wanda Wright Griffin; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Harold and Anita Bishop; daughters, Alicia Green and Pamela Ridenour; grandchildren and spouses, Susie Overholt, April and Richard Whaley, Jamie Green and lifetime partner, Audrey Beasley, Shaland Ridenour, and Timothy and Sara Ridenour; great-grandchildren, Sarah Pennington, Amanda Pennington, Zack Whaley, Nickki Whaley, Taylor Grace Penny, Ella Shay Whaley, and Lennox Ridenour; great-great-grandchild, Alyssa Chambers; foster daughter, Krissy Downs and her children, Ishad and Bubba; sister, Lois Bogle; brother, Pleaz Schultz; former son-in-law, Mike Ridenour; and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Blount Memorial Hospice team and special friends, Bernice McAfee and Maxine and Buddy Hunt. Family and friends will gather 12:00 PM Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the graveside service and interment, Rev. Jerry Scott officiating.
