Nancy Ellen Ketchersid Howard, 69, died at Williamsburg Villas, Knoxville, TN on Wednesday, February 6, 2013. She was born on January 7, 1944 in Knoxville, TN. She received her education at Tennessee Wesleyan College, Southern Methodist University and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She was married for 46 years to Harry Howard.
Nancy began her career as a teacher in 1966 in Athens, TN. She then taught in Mesquite, TX, Southern Methodist University, Tennessee Wesleyan College and Knox County Tennessee School System. After her retirement in 1999, she continued her love for teaching as a tutor for the next ten years. She was an enthusiastic member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Maryville, TN where she was active in the choir until 2010. She also devoted much love and energy to genealogical and historical research and served sixteen years as head of the International Ketcherside Genealogy and Family Association. Her loving devotion to her family and friends was steadfast, and her faith and trust were an encouraging example of how to fully live life well. Recent health issues increasingly limited her life but not her spirit and good humor. She was a beautiful incarnation of compassion, patience and commitment. She will be much missed by those who knew her.

She is survived by husband, Harry Howard; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Jamie Cloud; grandson, Michael Cloud; sister and husband, Carol and Arthur Doucette; brothers and wives, James and Gaile Ketchersid, and David and Mary Ketchersid; and a host of nieces, grand-nieces, nephews and grand-nephews.
Internment of ashes will be at 11 a.m. on February 16 at Highland Memorial Cemetery on Sutherland Avenue, Knoxville. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on the 16th at St Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Maryville, TN, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. Memorials may be given to St Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Maryville and to the Cole Neuroscience Center at University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville.
