Nina B. Proffitt Valentine, age 87, of Cosby, passed onto her Heavenly Home on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at her home after a long illness.. She was a retired school teacher of 32 years and taught many students in Morristown and Cocke County Schools. She along side her husband James developed and operated the timeshare resort known as Laurel Springs Resort. She was a lifelong member of Liberty Church and an active member of the Cosby Community and the TN Walking Horse Association. Nina and her husband James made a big Splash in the 1990’s in the horse show world when James bought Nina her beloved Colt by the name of Mountain Copperhead which after 68 days of training won her first show and later retired as a grand champion. Two of her favorite things to do was, to watch their horses run in the field and spend time with her beloved miniature Schnauzer-Kissie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Creed and Pearl Proffitt; and grandson, James H. “Chip” Valentine, III. She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, James H. Valentine, Sr. of Cosby; children; son, James H. Valentine, Jr. and wife Connie of Cosby; daughters, Victoria Holt and husband Fred of Cosby and Nena Profitt Valentine of Maryville, TN; grandchildren, Mark Holt and wife Alexandria of Rancho Mirage, CA, Melanie Nolan and husband Robbie of Cosby, Alex Janeway and girlfriend Lynn Taylar of Maryville, TN, also nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Her very special friends and caregivers, Alan, Aleshia and Jessica McClain, Darlene and Joe Evans all of Cosby, special cousins, Wilma Valentine and Arlecy Elovitz of KY, Bill Valentine of CA, and Darlene Woody of SC. Special friends of Many years, Marie Naillon, Brenda Shultz and Tammy Weaver all of Cosby, and a special Thank You to all the nurses and staff of Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for all they did for her during her illness.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm Sunday, February 10, 2013 with funeral services following at 3:00 pm with Rev. John Rush and Rev. Cleo Williamson officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
