William "Don" Ball, age 73, peacefully passed away on December 30th at UT Medical Center surrounded by his family. Don was preceded in death by his parents Reverend William Robert and Ida Belle (Nancy) Ball. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary Catherine Ball, son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Angela Ball, daughter and son-in-law, Rayann and Tiger Gullett of Mt. Juliet, grandchildren Nicole (Andy) Chrisman, Eli Wade and Max Evan Gullett of Mt. Juliet, brothers Reverend Harold (Gerry) Ball of Dandridge, Jack (Bobbie) Ball of Morristown, Carroll Ball, Johnny (Barbara) Ball of Morristown, Dean (Wanda) Ball, several nieces and nephews, and special little girl, Hallie Opal Myers. Don was best known in his family as a loving husband, father, and brother. Don's pride was his three adoring grandchildren. He spent many hours enjoying their presence. Within our community, he will be remembered as one of Newport's finest auto mechanics. Don worked at several locations and retired a few years ago from Newport Car Care. Don dedicated his work to helping others. Don's passion was auto racing. He enjoyed watching it as well as being a member of the Detroit Gasket Racing Team for several years. Don was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 1, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Manes Funeral Home. The funeral will be Saturday morning, January 2, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund. Family and friends may sign the guest register online at www.manesfuneralhome.com.
