MYERS , SHAWN RICHARD - age 30 of Walland went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 3, 2005 at Blount Memorial Hospital after a four year battle with cancer. He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church. He was the Assistant City Engineer for the City of Maryville and graduated Magna Cum Laude from The University of Tennessee with a BA in Civil Engineering and continued his education with a Master's Degree in Transportation Engineering. Shawn was a seventh generation decedent of The Myers Family of Cades Cove. He had worked for his grandfather, Hugh Myers , since the age of 10 at The Cades Cove Riding Stables. He grew up working at the stables with the horses and in the hayfields of Cades Cove, and later conducting hayrides. Preceded in death by: grandfather, James C. Whitaker grandmother, Betty Ruth Whitaker aunt, Kimberly Susan Whitaker uncle, John E. Johns. Survivors include: parents, Rick and Sherry Myers of Walland sister, Michelle Myers of Rossville, GA grandparents, Hugh & Verna Myers of Walland uncles, Dale Whitaker & wife Brenda, Jimmy Whitaker & wife Karen, David Myers & wife Linda aunts, Judy Johns and Bonnie McCampbell & husband Ray several cousins. Funeral service will be at 7:00 pm, Saturday, March 5, 2005 in the West Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Albert Oliver and Rev. Danny Jenkins officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 pm, Sunday, March 6, 2005 at Grandview Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, Saturday, March 5, 2005, West Chapel, Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.smithmortuary.com.
