RICHMOND, Ind. – Charles M. Turner, age 85, of Richmond, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Reid Hospital. Born July 19, 1927, in Benham, Virginia, to Zedie and Rosie Worley Turner, he lived in Richmond since 1947. Charles was a U.S. Army Sergeant that served in Company “A” 66th Tank Battalion during WWII. He was a self-employed truck driver. Charles was a member of the Masonic Lodge Hiram #417, F. & A.M., Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite, Indianapolis Murat Shrine, and American Legion Howard Thomas Post #315. He enjoyed baseball, pool, bowling, and fishing. Survivors include his son, Gene C. “Mike” Minor of Centerville; sisters, Audrey Barker of Centerville and Martha Fleenor and Norma Smith, both of Bristol, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, including William (Patty) McCarter of Tennessee, Marie (Butch) Nossett of Richmond, Diane (James) Chism of Richmond, and Kathy (Wayne) Browning of Centerville; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lola Whitney Turner who died in 1996; daughter, Margaret Ann Oatman; sisters, Edith Snodgrass and Clemon Miller; and brothers, Clayton and Fred Turner. Visitation for Charles M. Turner will be from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond, with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Gilmer V. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
